A look at the different types of pallet wrappers

The vast majority of anything that we buy at the store was at one time packed on a pallet. These loads, though easily movable, can be heavy and unsteady and can also be damaged easily by puncture or by moisture. This is why pallet wrappers are very important to our society. They dispense a thin sheet of plastic which seals, stabilizes, and protects products that are on a pallet. Pallet wrappers basically take two forms. The first and most available type of wrapper is a hand held device with a handle and a spool for holding the pallet wrap plastic. The operator walks around the pallet of goods holding the dispenser as it unrolls the plastic. These hand held wrappers are available in different lengths, from a few inches to a few feet long. Though they require physical labor to wrap a pallet, they are affordable and don’t require much space. They are also good for field work where an industrial pallet wrapper is not available. The second type of pallet wrapper is an automatic pallet wrapper. This consists of a spool for dispensing the plastic wrap, but the roll of wrap is mounted to an arm that automatically moves up or down. The pallet in this case is placed on a rotating platform and a motor turns it while the plastic rolls out to cover the products. Industrial systems are used on loading docks for companies that ship several pallets per hour. Though they require more space than a hand held dispenser, they save on time and effort in the long run.

The pallet wrapper an invention that we rarely think about in our daily lives, but they are integral to protecting the goods that help us maintain our lifestyle.
