The SD or secure digital card was introduced by Sandisk, Panasonic and Toshiba in 2001. This type of memory card is of the size of a postage stamp and is one of the most popular and common cards today as found in most of the digital cameras and several other electronic devices.

MINI SD CARD

This memory card was introduced in 2003 again, by Sandisk, Panasonic and Toshiba and is of 60% lesser volume than the SD memory cards.

MICRO SD CARDS

The micro sd cards (also known as trans flash) were introduced by Sandisk in 2004 and are known as world’s smallest memory cards which are not more than the size of a finger nail. These are specifically designed for mobile phones and today, the micro sd memory card is the most common card (within the SD card family) and known for its compatibility, reliability, higher storage capacity and faster data transfer speed.

This memory card was the outcome of joint venture of SanDisk and Sony and it was released in 2005. It has got enhanced specs as compared to memory stick.
